About Me:
My journey on my current path began in Vancouver, BC, May 28, 1973, the day I was born. Right from my toddler years, it was apparent to others that I had a flair for art, and creating unusual things. I enjoyed mostly drawing, colouring and written arts early on, moving more into painting, sculpting, and photography later in my teens. Then in my 20's, as a young single mother, I found it hard to afford jewelry, so I decided to learn how to create my own.
I took a couple of classes offered locally, in my now hometown of Sechelt, BC. I began making basic necklaces for myself, and soon found my friends were asking me if I could do the same for them. A little while later, I returned to living in Vancouver for a couple of years, where at this time I became connected with a local group of "Rockhounds." I went on many excursions around B.C, hunting for my treasures.
Some items I did manage to collect at this time include quartz, agate, amber, garnet, rhodonite, and crystal geodes. I also attended weekly groups at the local recreation center, where I was taught how to cut and polish my own cabochons. Through this group, I also learned basic silversmithing.
When I returned to live here on the Coast, I continued to learn many more ways of creating jewelry, mostly from trial and error, books, the internet, and some local jewelry artists who were kind enough to share their knowledge with me. I currently own my own rock saws, grinders and polishers, and would like to get back into cutting stones soon, if time permits. As well as this, I have my own potters wheel, kiln, and supplies for painting. Hopefully, some of these art forms will make it onto my website, one day.
When it comes to finding inspiration for my art, I do not have far to look. I live in such a beautiful place, with beaches, trees, mountains and wildlife all around me. As well, many of my paintings and drawings are emotionally or spiritually inspired. For these I draw from my personal feelings of life and what I see going on in the world today.
One of my other main interests is organically growing and using herbs for healing, as well as growing my own food. I currently have a variety of about 65 (maybe more) different plants that I am learning to keep in my garden. I have a dream of learning to become as healthy and self sufficient as I can be, and then teaching what I have learned to others.
Currently, I work in the field of Mental Heath, as a Community Outreach worker. I find this a very rewarding career, and enjoy the many unique people I interact with on a daily basis. I try make use of my interests in art, gardening, and healthy lifestyle into my clients lives, teaching them what I can, and enjoying some recreational time with them as well.
